WOMEN OF THE ELCA

Every confirmed female member of St. John’s Lutheran Church is a member of our Women of the ELCA. There is nothing to join and there are no membership dues.

All women are invited to participate in activities.

Quarterly general meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of March, June and September at 6:30 p.m. and prior to an annual Christmas party in December. Meetings consist of business, a short program, and refreshments/fellowship.

Current officers are:

PRESIDENT:  Julie Wright

VP/SECRETARY:  Lynn Mehringer

STEWARDSHIP:  Kathy Clark

TREASURER:  Pam Hill

DISCIPLESHIP:  Cheryl Swisher

BIBLE STUDY

Mary-Martha Circle meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The Bible Study is the study featured in Gather Magazine. Refreshments and fellowship follow. (Watch for news regarding a summertime lunch at a local restaurant and potluck in December.) Join us for one … or all in the session. We are an informal bunch!

BANNER CONSTRUCTION

Many beautiful banners have been constructed by members of the congregation in the past to adorn our sanctuary. If you are a creative type and are interested, a binder full of measurements, patterns, etc. is available for you to look through and gather ideas.

BAPTISMAL GIFTS

Each mother is given a flower from the Women of the ELCA and a cross-embroidered cloth. Debby Topel furnishes a Child of God bib to infants. A handmade quilt is presented to each baby from Women of the ELCA.

BIRTHDAY CARDS FOR WOMEN 65+

Bonnie Dettman sends birthday cards to women of the congregation age 65 and over if your birthdate is known by the church office. Please call the office if you are eligible and have not been receiving a card or if you or a church member you know is turning 65

QUILTING & OTHER LWR RELIEF

This project involves several areas. One is a morning of sewing simple quilts for donation to Lutheran World Relief. For many years, our women have donated 100 (or more) quilts per year! In addition, donations of wrapped bar soap, sewing itens, diapers, baby blankets, school supplies, etc. are needed for Health Kits, School Kits, Sewing Kits and Layettes. Items are packaged and delivered to LWR each October.

The St. John’s Lutheran Church local unit of Women of the ELCA is a member of a larger unit called the the Elkhorn Conference. The Elkhorn conference is part of an even larger unit, the South-Central Wisconsin Synodical Womens Organization. The SCW SWO is in turn part of the church wide organization. Leadership is always in demand at the Conference and Synodical levels as well as our local unit. Visit Women of the ELCA for lots of free info!

Gather (formerly Lutheran Woman Today), a magazine for growth in faith and mission, is published ten times a year by Women of the ELCA in partnership with Augsburg Fortress. Subscribe online by visiting their website.
